Handmade leather goods

Wallets, pouches, glasses cases and cardholders—each piece is carefully made using traditional hand tools and time-honoured leatherworking techniques.

Rye Hide uses a carefully selected range of leathers and stitching colours, allowing each piece to have its own distinctive character. With simple, understated forms and thoughtful design, every item is unique and made to be enjoyed for years to come.

The story behind Rye Hide

Founded by Garry Meehan, Rye Hide takes its name from Peckham Rye in South London, where Garry established his leatherworking workshop in 2014.

Today, Garry divides his time between South London and the North Norfolk coast, where his family has lived for more than seven generations. This connection to both places is reflected in the character of Rye Hide—rooted in traditional craft, with a strong sense of place and heritage.

Garry uses simple, traditional leatherworking techniques to create individually handcrafted goods, from satchels and card holders to glasses cases and change purses. Each piece is unique, combining timeless craftsmanship with practical functionality.

Learn leather craft at one of Garry’s workshops

Leather craft is a rewarding, hands-on skill that encourages focus, develops dexterity and sparks creativity. During this 2–3 hour workshop, you’ll choose your own leather colour and thread, learn the traditional two-needle saddle-stitching technique, and work with a range of traditional hand tools.

You’ll also have the chance to personalise your finished piece with your own initials, creating something that’s uniquely yours.

With over 200 leather craft workshops delivered for both adults and children, Garry provides friendly, expert guidance throughout—making these workshops an enjoyable and accessible introduction to the craft.
